A Walk Around the Block Video

December 29, 2014

Friday, the sun was shining and it was so mild out. Where is winter (she asks tentatively, knowing we could be buried with snow at any time)? I like a white Christmas and this year was anything but. I digress…

It was so nice out on Friday that I suggested we take a quick walk around the block. As you might know, quick with two little kids means a half hour to walk half a mile. So I grabbed my camera and decided to make another stop-motion video. Here it is!

It was really hard shooting this. I put almost no forethought into it, and just clicked along. I really like making these videos, and this one taught me a lot about what to strive for next time: Look for even light. Hold the camera steady. Make sure things are in focus (this part is hard!). Use a smaller aperture.

I want to make more of these. I think it’s a cool way to document something simple (or big — like maybe a birthday party!). I have so many ideas swirling around my head. I can totally see this becoming part of how I capture my life and work, even if it involves a lot of clicking and my husband is asking if I’m going to do that the whole time (answer: YES!).

I also want to figure out how to make a live-action video with my DSLR. It’s on the agenda for next year, for sure. Here’s to many videos in the new year! (Hear! Hear!)

This was so cool! I love it. I would want to try it, but my photography/filming skills consist of…cats and… squat. Still, thanks for sharing. 🙂
