Burton Bear Cowl

February 16, 2015

Yesterday, I finally knit the ears and sewed the button on the Burton Bear Cowl. I made it for Lily at her request, after the first one I made two years ago got too small in the shoulders and too floppy in the hood. This one fits her just perfectly.

I had plans for a mini photo shoot with her at the park, but the temperature was less than zero degrees most of the day, so that was not an option. Instead we opted for a few photos inside and I ended up bribing her to cooperate by letting her make videos with my phone afterward (one of her favorite pastimes lately).

This was a simple knit. Know how knit, purl, and knit in the round? You’re all set. The knitting was quick and I finished it in less than a week. But I dragged my feet finishing, like I often do. Why does weaving in the yarn tails feel like such drudgery?

At any rate, this was quick, simple, and cute. She loves it and has been wearing it nonstop, which of course makes me over the moon. And when the weather is as cold as it’s been, we all could use an extra hand knit to keep us warm, am I right?

Ah, friend, so many times I wish we lived closer as I know we would be even better friends if we could spend time together in person. Weaving in ends is NO PROBLEM, especially if you are doing it with a warm drink, and with friends. Better yet, you could easily have talked this friend into doing it for you. Still, when you do all the work yourself, you can be very proud of the finished product, and you shoudl be proud. Knitting is time and love made tangible, and every inch of the yarn in that garment was touched by you, infused with all your love and blessings for Lily. It is quite literally, the best you can do.

I think if we lived closer I’d catch the knitting bug! You could teach me all the things I’m too chicken to try on my own. Next time I see you, let’s plan to have a knitting tutorial. Sound good?

I can’t believe how grown up she is–when did this happen? The new bear cowl is adorable–you continue to amaze me! It’s cold here–much too cold for Mobile, so if I had one, I’d probably be like Lily and not take it off either! Happy Mardi Gras! xx

Oh, I forgot that today is Mardi Gras! I’ll have to throw some beads at the kids later to celebrate. 😉
