Six months ago was rough. I know I've said this before, but I'm going to say it again: I was feeling totally lost. I had spent the summer hustling my buns off, taking on as many photo sessions as I could manage, and it almost killed me. It was totally unsustainable, and I got sucked into the mentality that I had to start my business a certain way and I had to keep up and keep pushing myself. Even though I told myself a million times that I shouldn't compare my beginning to someone else's middle, …
33 things
Hello there, friend!
Late last year (really late, like, New Year's Eve), my friend Beth approached me about collaborating on a photography-related project. We were both feeling sad about habit coming to an end, and we decided we would create our own collaborative space in the new year. After some brainstorming (and countless emails), we came up with our new project, hello there, friend, a daily exchange of letters between friends. Today is our launch date, and we are so excited to share our posts every day, …
Photos I Plan to Take for 365: A List
The other day, I was looking at my 33 things list and realized I need to get crackin' on some of these things. Like writing 33 letters (I've written and photographed one) or making 33 lists (I've written none two so far). It's time to get busy. But I know I will eventually, so I made a list of photographs I'd like to take this year that I can refer to if I …
December in Film
Oh, December. So well documented in the December Photo Project, but then there were those last few days. Those days were saved for film, black and white film -- Kodak CN400BW film, to be exact, which is my favorite black and white because of its high contrast and the fact that it's C-41 and can be processed with color film at my local camera shop. Win-win! The end of December was strange weather-wise. We had mild weather, followed by a snowstorm, followed by more mild weather, followed by …
What I Read | December Edition
December was an exciting reading month, as I approached my goal of 52 books. And I did it! I read 52 books last year (more on this soon -- I want to share my favorites!)! So exciting!* These three books rounded out 2014, the year of reading all the books. Here's what I read in December: Show Your Work by Austin Kleon | I loved this book! Earlier this year, I read Kleon's Steal Like an Artist, and I didn't love it. But this one was great. Kleon writes about showing your process as you work, …
