March, A Month of Letters

March 2, 2015

I don’t know about you, but February was the longest month. It was colder than cold. It was busier than busy. By the end, my head was spinning and I was over it.

And then we flipped the calendar to March.

As I often do, I was trying to figure out how I can make this month better, more restorative and less frantic. To be honest, much of the frantic-ness came from getting all of the pieces of my class together, then pushing publish and starting to promote it — that’s a lot of work! With a new month stretching out before me, I keep thinking rest, rest, rest. But, of course, how?

So, at my quiet kitchen table in my quiet house, I got out some paper and markers and started to doodle. I always feel better when I make stuff with my hands (too much time at the computer, I think), and drawing and coloring is so soothing. What I ended up with is a few simple little cards to send out to people I love. I have a list of pen pals as long as my arm, and many of them haven’t received a letter from me yet this year. Time to remedy that.

And so I decided March will be a month of letters!

I made a list of people I owe a letter and I plan to write each of them this month. I want to slow down and pour myself into something that will restore and connect. Hand written letters should do the trick.

To be fair, one of my 33 things is writing 33 letters to 33 people (and I’ve written one), so this month I should put a significant dent in my list. And I need to add a few more people to write to, so if you’d like a letter from me, let me know. I’d love to write to you!
