It is rare for us to have a Saturday together, rarer still for us to have nothing planned. But this Saturday, that's exactly what we had. A day to do whatever we wanted. I hunger for these kinds of days since most days are full of comings and goings, to-do lists and time frames. As Adam and I discussed how we might spend our day, we laid out all of our options. Should I go to the gym for two hours and do whatever I want? Should we go to the museum? The indoor swimming pool? The park? I was …
A Day in the Life
On Wednesday, I documented my own "Day in the Life." I took photos throughout the day to capture what ordinary looks like around here. And it was a pretty ordinary day, so ordinary, in fact, that I left big, boring chunks out (like going to the gym and the two hours when my husband picked up our daughter from school and took both kids to the store to buy wine). But still, the bones are here. And it was a pretty good day. These were all taken with my DSLR, all lightly edited and converted to …
What I Read | October Edition
As part of my list of 33 things to do before I turn 34, I plan to read 33 books. It's not an extreme challenge since the five books I read in October put my 2014 tally at 45 (somehow my reading this year has me on track to read at least 52 books -- insane!). But my reading goals for 2015 are to slow down and read some longer books, so I don't expect to keep up my 2014 pace. At all. Once I realized I was on track to actually finish the equivalent of a book a week this year, the pressure to read …
More October in Film
There's nothing like a brisk, sunny day in October. Literally, nothing. The colors are so vibrant and the air so cold and refreshing, it's hard not to get outside. On this particular day, I was sitting at my desk working and had the itch to grab my camera and finish this roll of film. Thankfully, I work from home and my husband was with our son that day. So, off I went to the same park where these were taken about 24 hours earlier. To be fair, I was location scouting for a photo session I had …
October in Film
I've had this roll of film in my camera since the summer, but didn't shoot it until last week. Why? I was too distracted with my photography business. Most of my photo taking was for clients, and when I did shoot for myself, I didn't have the patience for film. Which is so sad because I love film (remember when I did a film 365 in 2012?). One of the reasons I love film the most is one of the reasons I didn't shoot any this summer -- there is no editing involved. When I used to shoot tons of …
