December in Film

January 7, 2015

Oh, December. So well documented in the December Photo Project, but then there were those last few days. Those days were saved for film, black and white film -- Kodak CN400BW film, to be exact, which is my favorite black and white because of its high contrast and the fact that it's C-41 and can be processed with color film at my local camera shop. Win-win! The end of December was strange weather-wise. We had mild weather, followed by a snowstorm, followed by more mild weather, followed by …

The 52 Books of 2014

January 5, 2015

I have gotten a lot of questions about reading 52 books last year, but the biggest one is: How do you find the time? People have asked me that over and over, and I still scratch my head and have to think. How do I find the time? I only expected to read about 30 books this year, mostly because I knew I was going to start some sort of photography business and my time would be limited. What I Read | December Edition

January 2, 2015

December was an exciting reading month, as I approached my goal of 52 books. And I did it! I read 52 books last year (more on this soon -- I want to share my favorites!)! So exciting!* These three books rounded out 2014, the year of reading all the books. Here's what I read in December: Show Your Work by Austin Kleon | I loved this book! Earlier this year, I read Kleon's Steal Like an Artist, and I didn't love it. But this one was great. Kleon writes about showing your process as you work, …

Looking Ahead to 2015

December 31, 2014

It's hard to not make a grand statement recapping this year and making meaning as I connect the dots. This year, I started my photography business, I started this blog, I read fifty-two (52!!!!) books cover-to-cover, I made a list of birthday goals (and I've already crossed off quite a few), and I fell pretty hard for still life. These things are all good things, and when I look at the year as a whole (and the last few years, too), I can see how one thing led to another. I can see how even …

A Walk Around the Block Video

December 29, 2014

Friday, the sun was shining and it was so mild out. Where is winter (she asks tentatively, knowing we could be buried with snow at any time)? I like a white Christmas and this year was anything but. I digress... It was so nice out on Friday that I suggested we take a quick walk around the block. As you might know, quick with two little kids means a half hour to walk half a mile. So I grabbed my camera and decided to make another stop-motion video. Here it is!   It was really …
