Some Links for a Saturday

November 22, 2014

After my resolution to slow down and get myself back together earlier this week, things went much better. I slowed way down and did a ridiculous amount of knitting (but still, somehow, feel like I haven't really gotten anywhere with it). I finished a book and started two new ones, wrote two letters, and bought some new Project Life supplies. It was good, and I feel quite a bit more balanced going into Thanksgiving week. Looking ahead, it should be a low-key week (read: a short school week and no …

Letter Writing

November 20, 2014

It's hard to believe that I've spent the last three years writing letters. Once I joined the Letter Writers Alliance and found a kindred spirit in my pen pal (read more about that here),  I was hooked on snail mail. And why not? Sending a letter is a wonderful, slow, reflective thing. It forces me to slow down, take inventory, figure out where I am. A Little Addition and Subtraction

November 18, 2014

We're more than halfway through November and while many folks have been posting their daily gratitude lists on social media, I have been not be very grateful at all. In fact, I've been a little whiny and stressed out. There, I said it. I have always tried to live a deliberate, mindful, slow life. I don't like running around or feeling maxed out all the time. But Adam and I committed to him going to school part time (in addition to working two jobs), and I have my work and the responsibility …

Around Here

November 14, 2014

It's been an incredible week. My daughter was off Monday and Tuesday, so we took it easy. We met friends for play dates and took naps and soaked up the sun (it was sunny and 65 on Tuesday!). I realized how much I miss her now that she's gone all day at kindergarten. Like I've been aching over it -- I had no clue. I miss doing projects together during the day and having spur-of-the-moment adventures. I just miss her. But without kindergarten, I would have a much harder time finding time for work …

Today, I Am a _________________________

November 12, 2014

Not long ago, I heard someone speaking about how they had seen business cards that read "Today, I Am a ________________." Then, the business card owner would fill in the blank appropriately before handing out the card. Sometimes it would say writer or blogger or food photographer, reflective of a person with a hybrid career, one cobbled together among many vocations, one a bit more difficult to explain than "freelancer". When I heard that, I thought, 'I need a card like that!' Because I'm …
